Artist Salons

Artist Salons sponsored by STAR enable artists to view the work of other artists and network, and let art lovers mingle with their favorite Hunters Point Shipyard and Islais Creek artists.

In a typical salon, three artists open their studios for an evening to show what they are working on. Guests stay about 40 minutes in each studio and ask questions about process and materials.

Salons are not sales events nor critique groups. Criticism is welcome only if the artist expressly requests feedback, for instance, on a work in progress.

The salons tend to be fascinating for anyone who enjoys art. Each artist has their own methods and inspirations.

The salons are a great way for Hunters Point Shipyard and Islais Creek Studios artists to meet other artists. Other artists and members of the public must contact the event coordinator to arrange to be escorted into the Shipyard.

Hunters Point Shipyard and Islais Creek artists who would like to open their studios are encouraged to contact the coordinator. We schedule salons near Open Studio dates to avoid disrupting work in progress.

Refreshments are generally BYOB and carried from studio to studio by the attendees. Artists don’t have to do much preparation aside from perhaps clearing part of a table for food.
